About
We welcome all future leaders of tourism with the 21st century’s global mind, enthusiastic spirit, and intelligence!
Human beings are animals that play and travel. Tourism has been improving human life with abundance and fascination. Tourism is a critical area leading the global economy and society, and it has been growing significantly over the past decades. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNTWO), the tourism industry is currently contributing to the global economy on a scale equivalent to crude oil exports or automobile industries.
Hanyang University’s Department of Tourism has been the primary and fundamental institution that educates the future leaders of Korea’s tourism since 1981 and is now on its mission to become the world’s leading tourism academy. Hanyang University's Department of Tourism is taking its root down in a global market beyond Korea.
It has already developed a system of student exchange programs and maintenance of sisterhood relationships with prominent universities abroad while annually inviting overseas scholars to give lectures from diverse points of view. In addition, internationalized courses are provided to the extent where international students from all over the world are accounting for 35% of the total capacity.
Hanyang University’s Department of Tourism includes IC-PBL (Industry-Coupled Problem/Project-Based Learning) class, the model of the creative convergence leader development education that helps students build interconnection with the industry, society, and school to solve practical issues occurring in the field. The IC-PBL classes are trying to help develop future education innovation in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, competency to solve the actual industrial and social problems, and professional competencies necessary for future social creative convergence leaders.
Hanyang University's Department of Tourism is heading toward a highly valued future and looking forward to walking with future global leaders.
Hakseung Shin,
Dean of Tourism Department at Hanyang University
